Critical Individual Tax Deadlines for March 2026

With the April filing deadline appearing on the horizon, March serves as a critical checkpoint for individuals and families here in Fort Lauderdale. At Thompson-Smith CPA, LLC, we want to ensure you are prepared for these upcoming milestones rather than rushing at the finish line.

March 10: Reporting Tip Income

For our clients working in the hospitality and service sectors, accurately tracking income is vital. If you received more than $20 in tips during February, you must report this to your employer by March 10, typically using IRS Form 4070. This report allows your employer to withhold the necessary FICA and income taxes from your regular wages.

If your wages are insufficient to cover these taxes, the uncollected amount will be reported in Box 8 of your W-2. You will then be responsible for paying that uncollected withholding when we file your annual return.

March 16: One Month Until Filing Deadline

Scheduling tax appointment planner

Because March 15 falls on a Sunday in 2026, Monday the 16th marks the official "one month warning" before individual returns are due. If you haven't secured a time on Georgia Smith’s calendar yet, we strongly encourage you to do so now.

Please do not delay making an appointment simply because you are missing a few documents. At Thompson-Smith CPA, LLC, we provide expert guidance with a personal touch; we can review what you have and create a simple checklist for the missing items. Even if you anticipate needing an extension, preparing a preliminary return now allows us to estimate your liability. This helps you pay any tax due by the deadline, minimizing interest and penalties.

Standard Filing Rules

Weekends & Holidays: As we see this month, if a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the deadline automatically shifts to the next business day.

Disaster Area Relief: Deadlines may be extended for taxpayers in federally designated disaster areas. To check if your area is affected, please verify via the official channels below:
